The venue for the Rugby 7s events will be the National Sports Centre (NSC), based approximately 1.5 miles (2.4km) from the Games Village on Douglas Promenade and being the main sporting centre for the Games with Athletics, Badminton, Swimming and Mens Gymnastics also taking place on the same site. This £20 million multipurpose facility is truly the sporting centre of the Island. In September, 1991 the Athletics Stadium was opened by Steve Ovett, the former British and Olympic Champion. In 1998 the Pools, main Sports Hall and Health & Fitness Suite were opened. The development was completed by the opening of an Indoor Bowls Hall, a secondary Sports Hall and six Squash Courts in late 2000.
The newly refurbished 3,000 seat floodlit stadium at The National Sports Centre, Douglas will play host to the Rugby 7’s Tournament. The matches will be played on a 3G synthetic pitch fully approved by the IRB (Regulation 22).
