Medical

Following on from the December Newsletter, the CYG2011 OC is pleased to provide a further update on the medical provision for visiting nations (athletes and officials) during CYG2011.

It has been agreed between the CYG2011 OC and the Isle of Man Department of Health that any prescriptions issued to accredited visiting competitors and officials under the age of 18 years, will be dispensed free of charge. Anyone over the age of 18 years will be charged the standard cost, which is currently £3.85 per item.

Nearer to the event CGA’s will be asked to provide details of team doctors assigned to their team during the Games.  On collection of their accreditation, team doctors will also be issued with a prescription pad for use during their time on the island.  Unused prescription forms must be returned to the OC prior to departure from the island.

Due to a separate issue linked with their medical insurance cover some Doctors may only be able to prescribe for members of their particular team and cover will not extend to other residents of that country, such as parents.  The island’s Department of Health will circulate details of all visiting team doctors to island GP’s and chemists located in the Douglas area prior to commencement of the Games.

As previously advised, any immediate and necessary medical treatment will be provided by any Isle of Man General Practitioner free of charge, as well as emergency and in-patient treatment at the General Hospital and transport to the hospital by ambulance (if required).

In-patient treatment will only cover injuries sustained or illness contracted during the period of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games and will not be available free of charge for pre-existing medical conditions.  We would therefore urge all nations to ensure necessary insurance cover is in place and to check that your policy covers repatriation.

Please be advised that the Isle of Man does not form part of the EU therefore if you are in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), unfortunately it is not valid on the Island.

Medical Provision for CYG2011

The CYG2011 OC is pleased to announce the following medical provision has been agreed for visiting nations (athletes and officials) during CYG2011.

It has been confirmed that immediate and necessary treatment will be provided by any island General Practitioner free of charge.  Treatment solely within the Accident & Emergency Department at Nobles Hospital as an ‘out-patient’ will be provided free of charge as will transport by ambulance (if needed) to the hospital.

Nearer to the event CGA’s will be asked to provide details of team doctors assigned to their team during the Games.  On collection of their accreditation, team doctors will also be issued with a prescription pad for use during their time on the island.  Unused prescription forms must be returned to the OC prior to departure from the island.  Due to a separate issue linked with their medical insurance cover some Doctors may only be able to treat members of their particular team and cover will not extend to other residents of that country, such as parents.  The island’s Department of Health will circulate details of all visiting team doctors to island GP’s and chemists located in the Douglas area prior to commencement of the Games.

Nations should be aware that any hospital treatment out-with the above provision (ie hospital admittance following assessment at A&E, operations, etc) will be paid by the individual or team and we would therefore urge all nations to ensure comprehensive medical insurance cover is sought before travelling to the island and to check that your policy covers the Isle of Man and the costs of repatriation.
